Why do you believe in your beliefs? My personal project to audit my every idea

One thing I'm fascinated by are the metaphysics of belief, put simply, the first causes of our ideas. We're not born with any beliefs (we're not born with much at all), we learn and internalise them from others who believe the same things, people we trust, which lends authenticity to the belief.

The purpose of my self study is unearthing every supernatural concept I've learned and how it developed. Supernatural is the umbrella term I will use for religious, paranormal, extrasensory and non-physical phenomenon - spooky stuff.

I bought a cheap, but large notebook, a new pen, and dedicated time every evening revisiting my life divided into school years to unearth the foundations of my current beliefs, why I believed them then, and why I do or do not believe them now. Dividing the past into school years (or, terms) made the most sense to me as it is where we spend most of our time growing up and collecting ideas.

The process is subject to one's memory, a not-always reliable companion, but certainly our nearest in matters of our subconscious.

I am not naturally a skeptic, which is precisely why I chose to approach my beliefs from my earliest years with an inquisitive lens, which I did not possess growing up.

In another blog, I'll talk further of my personal development, but my intention for this post is introducing the concept, the method and the reason.

At the end of it, I hope to be a more firm person in what I still believe, but mostly a more critical person of new ideas, which we receive every day via the mass communication of the internet.
